The Edward J. Healey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center

Healey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, located in West Palm Beach, is a 198-bed comprehensive skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility. Serving the needs of the community since 1917, the Healey Center provides long-term and short-term care for eligible Palm Beach County residents 21 and older.

The Healey Center is unique in many ways. A majority of the Center’s residents are under the age of 64. Many are patients who are recovering from debilitating illnesses, strokes, or traumatic injuries. The Healey Center also cares for residents with Dementia and complex medical issues.

Quality Nursing and Rehabilitative Care
The staff at the Healey Center includes nurses, therapists, and social workers. The rehabilitation staff delivers more than 28,000 occupational, physical, and speech therapy services a year. In addition, physicians make around 3,000 visits to the Center a year.

The Healey Center is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards and accreditations. The Health Care District encourages staff to advance their professional skills. In 2008, for example, 70 Certified Nursing Assistants at the Center completed the Restorative Nursing program. The Healey Center is a member of the Florida Health Care Association.   • Psychiatric treatment and psychological counseling

Commitment to Quality of Life
The majority of the residents at the Healey Center require more than a year to recover to the fullest extent possible. Some require long-term care. For many residents, the Healey Center is not just a rehabilitation facility—it’s their home. A council of residents works closely and collaboratively with the District’s staff.
The activities staff at the Center provides a variety of educational and social programs as well as entertainment. The Center has its own wheelchair bus and two vans for taking residents to local events and shopping centers. Healey Center bus transport

The Healey Center is committed to helping each and every resident to reach and maintain the optimum possible level of functional and social ability. For some, that means regaining the ability to speak or sit upright or walk. Others recover to the point where they are able to return to their homes and jobs. The hope and healing make the Healey Center a very special place.

Volunteer Opportunities
The Healey Center provides a range of rewarding volunteer opportunities, such as reading to residents, accompanying residents on group trips in the area, and participating in entertainment and social activities in the Center. The Center welcomes financial contributions as well as donations of certain articles in good condition, in particular, exercise equipment, electric wheelchairs, and electronic equipment such as computers, CD players, radios, and televisions.
