Logan Tinfina Logan & Rosemary Tinfina
Logan Tinfina was seven years old when he was hit by a car near his home. He was rescued by Trauma Hawk – one of the Health Care District’s two emergency helicopters – and airlifted to one of Palm Beach County’s two trauma centers. Every second mattered. Logan had severe injuries, including a fractured skull and lacerated liver.

Rosemary Tinfina, Logan’s mother, is grateful to the Trauma Hawk crew, pilots, doctors and other who saved her son’s life.

“He is my miracle child,” she said. “Trauma care is not something you think about every day, but I’m glad I live in a community where health care and emergency services are a top priority.”

Steve CiavolaMotorcycle Accident Survivor
Steve Ciavola, 53, of Lake Worth, was riding his motorcycle in West Palm Beach on October 24, 2006 at 6:15 a.m. when he was hit by a car and thrown off his bike. The impact shattered his knee cap and damaged three vertebrae. Trauma Hawk flew him to the Trauma Center where his left leg had to be amputated. He was in the Intensive Care Unit for a week. Three weeks of rehabilitation followed.

Despite losing his leg, Steve is thankful. “I didn’t know there were so many kind people in this world until this accident,” he said.
